Why Should I Join The FFA?
As an upcoming freshman, you have a huge change that is getting ready to take place in your life. No longer will you be in Junior High, you will officially be on the road to GRADUATION! You will be entering the wonderful world of High School....A wonderful place where you will no longer be the "seniors", you will be the Pee-Ons once again. Here's the problem, you will be facing all these social challenges while your class schedule is becoming harder and harder. Does that seem like a lot to handle? Then imagine yourself doing that for 4 years without a break. WOW, thats a lot to think about....Then after High School, the majority of you will be attending college and spending a small fortune on continuing your education. SO....now to the question, why should you join the FFA? Well, let me tell you a bunch of really awesome reasons that you should join the FFA.
1. Getting involved in any activity during school, whether it's FBLA, FFA, FCCLA, Math League, or any of the many sports that the school has, will make your journey through school much easier. You will meet new friends and will gain responsibility and a work ethic that will stick with you forever.
2. All of the activities that you accumulate through being in an organization will help you GREATLY when it comes to applying for scholarships and financial aid in college. When you are in an organization, it shows that you have determination and want to get involved and colleges are more likely to give scholarships to students who care about what they are doing.
3. SPECIFICALLY, you can do things in the Jasper FFA Chapter that you will not have the opportunity to do anywhere else. We have an entire year of activities, meetings, leadership activities, and conventions that we attend to give each FFA member the ability to meet their personal potential. Every year, our FFA Chapter makes a 10 hour trip to the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. There are nearly 50,000 FFA members that attend this convention from all 50 states in the union, Puerto Rico, and Guam. PLUS, the entire FFA membership is nearly Half a Million members. That makes FFA the #1 student led organization in the world. There are more members in FFA than FBLA and FCCLA combined.
4. In addition, at the end of each year, we take a leadership trip to somewhere that we have not been before. For example, our chapter has went to Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas, we have been to Waterloo and Muscatine, Iowa, and last year we went to Nashville and Chattanooga, Tennessee. We also went to Georgia for a short while upon Lookout Mountain. This year, we are planning a trip to South Dakota to see Mt. Rushmore and travel a short while through Wyoming. FFA gives you the opportunity to do things and go places that you will not do any other time in your life.
5. Leadership opportunities in the FFA are abundant. If you are wanting to get involved in making yourself a better person, FFA has many leadership opportunities including being a local, area, or state officer, going to leadership conferences in Jefferson City or Washington DC, and helping out with our community service activities.
6. Being in the FFA gives you a sense of pride. You are a part of a student organization that helps our community, our state, and our nation.
7. You might think that you don't want to be a farmer, so you shouldn't join the FFA. WELL....the FFA isn't just for farm kids anymore. The FFA involved everyone, men, women, city kids, farm kids....EVERYONE!!. There are so many opportunities in the FFA, that you should not be afraid to jump in and give it a try. If you have any questions, please send me an Email

8. I encourage you to get involved in an organization, whether its the FBAL, FCCLA, FFA, or a sport. The possibilities are endless in the FFA and you will be able to do things that you can;t do anywhere else....So see Mr. Jeffries for more details...

Sincerely,

Jared Jeffries
